This glossary is written for virtual airline and flight simulation use within Virtual Air Canada Airline. It is not intended as a real-world aviation reference.
The Aircraft Flight Manual is the official document issued by the aircraft manufacturer and approved by the regulatory authority. It contains operating limitations, normal and emergency procedures, performance data, weight and balance information, and other details required for safe operation of a specific aircraft type. The AFM is a legally binding document. Pilots must operate the aircraft within the limitations and procedures described in the AFM. Airlines may supplement the AFM with their own Standard Operating Procedures, but those procedures must remain within the AFM’s boundaries.

In Virtual Airline Operations

High-fidelity aircraft add-ons for flight simulators often include realistic performance data based on the real AFM. Study-level aircraft like those from PMDG, iniBuilds, and FlyByWire model systems and limitations closely following actual AFM specifications. Understanding AFM data helps virtual pilots operate their aircraft more realistically.
