# Data Monitoring & Reports

# Data Monitoring & Flight Reports

This section outlines the flight data monitoring systems and reporting procedures at Virtual Air Canada Airline.

## ACARS Data Collection

The <Tooltip tip="Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System" cta="See glossary" href="/aops/additional-resources/glossary/acars">ACARS</Tooltip> automatically uploads:

* <Tooltip tip="Operational Flight Plan" cta="See glossary" href="/aops/additional-resources/glossary/ofp">OFP</Tooltip> data
* Departure and arrival times
* Fuel consumption figures
* Flight route adherence
* Aircraft performance parameters

This data is transmitted in real-time when connected and stored for later transmission when in areas of no connectivity.

## Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA)

The FOQA program monitors flight data to identify operational trends and potential safety issues. Key parameters monitored include:

### Approach & Landing

* Approach speed deviation exceeding +10/-5 knots from target
* Touchdown at greater than 1.3 Vref
* Excessive bank angle below 500 ft AGL (greater than 30°)
* Landing with flaps not in landing configuration
* Hard landings (G-force greater than 2.1 G)

### Take-off & Climb

* Rotation speed deviations of more than 5 knots
* Excessive pitch rate during rotation
* Climb gradient below published minimum
* Flight director mode changes below 400 ft AGL

### En-route Operations

* Altitude deviations greater than 200 ft
* Speed exceedances (Mmo/Vmo+)
* Excessive bank angles (greater than 45°)

## Captain's Voyage Report (CVR)

The Captain must file a CVR within 24 hours of flight completion. The report includes:

* Flight summary
* Weather encountered
* <Tooltip tip="Air Traffic Control" cta="See glossary" href="/aops/additional-resources/glossary/atc">ATC</Tooltip> issues
* Aircraft technical status
* Crew performance observations
* Passenger service issues
* Safety occurrences or concerns

## Mandatory Reporting Events

The following events must be reported through the Air Safety Report (ASR) system:

1. Any <Tooltip tip="Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System" cta="See glossary" href="/aops/additional-resources/glossary/gpws-egpws">EGPWS</Tooltip> (Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System) alert
2. TCAS Resolution Advisory (RA) that requires evasive action
3. Bird strike or wildlife impact
4. Severe turbulence or windshear encounter
5. Flight control system malfunctions
6. Rejected takeoff above 80 knots
7. Go-around initiated below 1,000 ft AGL
8. Any declaration of emergency
9. Diversion to alternate airport

## Data Analysis and Trends

Flight data is analyzed for:

* Individual flight safety
* Fleet-wide trends
* Training effectiveness
* Procedure compliance
* Performance optimization opportunities

Results are shared through:

* Monthly safety bulletins
* Quarterly trend reports
* Annual safety reviews

## Non-Punitive Reporting System

Virtual Air Canada Airline operates a non-punitive reporting system that:

* Encourages open reporting of safety concerns
* Protects the identity of reporters (when requested)
* Focuses on systemic improvement rather than individual blame
* Provides feedback to all reports submitted
* Uses the data collected to enhance training and procedures
